Job Summary
The Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), New York is seeking a candidate for the Mervyn W. Susser Post-doctoral Research Fellowship Program in 2025. Since its inception in 1977, the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center has integrated clinical, epidemiologic, and genetic research at CUIMC focused on diseases of the brain and nervous system throughout the life course, with the mission to find the causes of these disabling disorders by investigating human populations at risk. The Susser Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship Program supports new investigators to develop research careers studying topics in epidemiology of conditions affecting the brain and nervous system, including, but not limited to, neurodevelopment in children, cerebral palsy, autism, seizures & epilepsy, neurodegenerative disorders associated with aging, motor and cognitive disorders, brain injury, infectious diseases e.g. HIV and SARS-CoV-2 etc, and perinatal and genetic factors related to these conditions. The duration of the Fellowship is 2 years with the second year conditional on adequate progress in the first year. The Postdoctoral Research Scientist are encouraged and supported to apply for career development awards, such as a K99/R00 award through the National Institutes of Health.
The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will have the opportunity to join ongoing projects and will receive training and support to develop ideas and strategies for embarking on an independent research career in neuroepidemiology. Candidates will have the opportunity to select faculty mentors from within the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center, the Department of Neurology, the Department of Epidemiology, as well as with affiliated faculty in other departments and centers across the Columbia University Medical Center.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to working on data analysis, writing papers, reviewing literature, developing collaborations, working on new study design, and grant writing.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates intending to pursue academic research careers in population-level research related to neuroepidemiology.
PhD or equivalent doctoral degrees (e.g., DrPH, DSc) in Epidemiology or related population health science, or MD degree with master?s level training in epidemiology, biostatistics or data science.
