Job Purposes::

To support faculty in synchronous and asynchronous online and distance learning course development and delivery. Will perform course content review to ensure content aligns with learning objectives, is accurate, and follows institutional guidelines; has standardized content formats, assessment methods, and instructional strategies. Will develop and deliver needs-based training to faculty and/or staff. Will work in collaboration with faculty to ensure an engaging learning experience by utilizing and integrating technology, educational theory, and best practices.

Required Qualifications::

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or equivalent professional experience in the technology based-instruction field with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in instructional design, distance learning, and/or teaching in a higher education environment, OR Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology or equivalent relevant experience in the technology-based instruction field with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in instructional design, distance learning and/or teaching in a higher education environment
  • Evidence of collaborating with others to develop effective hybrid and online learning courses or programs that meet industry and/or accreditation standards
  • Ability to work independently and as a productive team member
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest industry trends
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of learning theory and instructional design theory
  • Demonstrated skill in designing assessment/evaluation processes/tools
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and best practices in higher education
  • Outstanding communication skills, verbal and written
  • Project management and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications::

  • Experience with learning management systems and designing courses
  • Background in educational multimedia production, storyboarding, digital development, test development, graphic design, and video production
  • Experience in conducting workshops in instructional design
  • Professional certification in areas related to compliance and instructional design

Essential Functions and percent of time::

60% Course Review and Evaluation

  • Support faculty members in developing or redeveloping courses for new and/or existing programs based on appropriate pedagogy, andragogy, and heutagogy that support all learning modalities with suitable instructional technologies in all class formats
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits to maintain the highest level of instructional design excellence
  • Evaluate submitted courses for adherence to institutional expectations, accessibility requirements, and industry standards
  • Interpret and analyze requirements obtained/derived from faculty; review, verify and/or validate system specifications and other design-related documentation
  • Drive innovative curriculum design initiatives by introducing new pedagogical approaches and integrating emerging instructional design trends, and technologies when collaborating with faculty
  • Offer project leadership for large-scale initiatives, establishing clear goals, monitoring progress, and providing guidance on course/project scope, timeline, materials, and evaluation methods to complete comprehensive learning and training programs
  • Serve as a specialist for best practices and approaches for online, hybrid, and traditional class design based on innovative learning methods for faculty members from various departments
  • Stay current with in-person, hybrid, HyFlex, and online teaching practices, research, and industry trends in education
  • Develop supporting documentation for faculty, transforming complex information into accessible, professionally written materials


35% Faculty and Staff Training

  • Conduct workshops in applying instructional design strategies to various modes learning such as online, hybrid, and traditional formats
  • Develop training materials and technical documentation (i.e., User Guides, Enterprise Help, Training Plans, training aids, handouts, online course)
  • Liaise with other departments that support academic functions to understand all necessary aspects of faculty training needs. Ensure training and instructional materials are developed to support institutional learning through excellence in teaching and instructional delivery
  • Organize and coordinate the logistics of faculty in-services to achieve an effective professional development experience
  • Assist in assessing the effectiveness of faculty professional development as it relates to the improvement/enhancement of teaching/learning practices
  • Coordinate faculty peer-sharing of best practices and new teaching/learning strategies
  • Collaborate with others in Instructional Technology Services and the Center for Faculty Excellence to provide faculty development opportunities
  • Assist the team in building a repository of training resources for faculty and staff
  • Support the semester opening and closing of courses in the LMS , deploy course/faculty evaluations, archive data and evaluation reports, disseminate accordingly, and assist faculty in textbook or instructional tool implementation in individual courses
