Delivers high-quality service ensuring passengers experience a welcoming environment. The City of Cedar Rapids does not offer sponsorship for employment authorization. Job Duties & Responsibilities Operates transit vehicles on scheduled routes in a safe and responsible manner. Provides respectful and inclusive service to all passengers, including individuals with disabilities, older adults, and people from diverse backgrounds. Collects and records fares accurately; operates fare collection equipment in line with department procedures. Responds to public inquiries and acknowledges concerns or complaints with professionalism and empathy. Prepares and submits required reports and record sheets daily. Provides assistance to passengers in compliance with ADA regulations and City policies, including operating wheelchair lifts/ramps and securing mobility devices. Conducts pre-trip vehicle checks and ensures the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of the bus. Performs post-trip inspections, including checking for lost items, securing the vehicle, and refueling. Shares accurate route, schedule, and fare information with passengers. Maintains reliable attendance and punctuality. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Education And Experience Previous experience operating buses or other CDL vehicles is preferred Experience providing customer service or working with the public is preferred Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and respectfully Ability to work collaboratively with individuals of varied backgrounds and needs Required Licenses or Certifications Must possess valid U.S. Driver's License Valid Commercial Driver's License (Class B) permit with passenger and airbrake endorsements and valid Medical Examiners Certificate required upon hire Work Schedule ~ Could be scheduled anytime Monday-Friday 5:10am-8:30pm and Saturday 7:45am-5:50pm; adding up to 40 hours regularly scheduled.
