Job Description


Summary

1. Demonstrate competency, good judgment, and self-control in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilities;
2. Relate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience;
3. Recognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children, their families, and their cultures;
4. Ensure that no child is abused, neglected, or exploited while in the care of the center; and
5. Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to DFPS as specified in the Texas Family Code, 261.101.
6. Follow all guidelines of the Lead Teacher and follow set curriculum for age appropriate rooms.

Duties

1. Know and comply with the minimum standards for child-care centers;
2. Know which children they are responsible for;
3. Know each childs name and have information showing each childs age;
4. Supervise children at all times, as specified in 746.1205 of the minimum standards (relating to What does Licensing mean by supervise children at all times?);
5. Ensure the children are not out of control;
6. Interact routinely with children in a positive manner;
7. Foster developmentally appropriate independence in children through planned but flexible program activities;
8. Foster a cooperative rather than a competitive atmosphere;
9. Show appreciation of childrens efforts and accomplishments; and
10. Ensure continuity of care for children by sharing with incoming caregivers information about each childs activities during the previous shift and any verbal or written instructions given by the parent.
11. Clean and sanitize classroom daily;
12. Restock products needed for classroom;
13. Sweep after snacks and meals; mop classroom after all children are gone for the day;
14. Other responsibilities may be designated; supervisor request per center needs.

Requirements

1. ALL teachers are required to supervised children at all times;
2. Assigned caregiver is accountable for each childs care
3. Responsibility for ongoing activity of each child;
4. Appropriate visual and/or auditory awareness, physical proximity, and knowledge of activity requirements and each childs needs.
5. Volunteers, Substitutes, and Contractors must intervene when necessary to ensure childrens safety;
A. Ages of the children;
B. Individual differences and abilities;
C. Indoor and outdoor layout of the child-care center; and
D. Neighborhood circumstances, hazards, and risks.
