The Job You Will Perform:

The Prattville Mill is currently seeking a Laboratory Technician. The Prattville Mill is a complex, fully integrated pulp and paper manufacturing facility with two machines. The mill includes multiple process lines of wood handling, pulping, power and recovery, finished products, and effluent treatment. The position works within the Environmental group and reports to the Product Performance Manager

 

A significant part of the job involves servicing the Wet End Test Station and Boiler Water Test Station providing needed testing supplies, instrumentation, instrument troubleshooting and familiarity with test results. Also, calibration and maintenance of the CENCO (liquor testing) instruments is a priority. This position requires someone who can work independently and is a good organizer.

• Environmental Regulatory Testing (BOD)
• Provide support for the Wet End, Boiler Water, and Dry End Test Stations.
• Routine and non-routine lab testing to support mill operating departments collecting samples, tests include GL Solids, BL solids, BL oxidation, pH, sodium, etc.
• Calibration and maintenance of the CENCO liquor solids instruments in the Power House and Chemical Department.

• Non-routine testing in response to mill operation upsets or troubleshooting.
• Participate as needed in all major mill outages.
• Sampling and testing of incoming oil trucks periodically.
• Maintain lab housekeeping to a high standard; Support 5s activities.
• Interaction with other mill departments – communication.
• Perform annual DMR QA Study.
• Lead chain of custody for required environmental samples.
• Interact with other mill departments – communication.
• Assist Product Performance Manager and perform other duties, as assigned.

• Must have a BS in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Engineering (Chemical preferred)
• Strong desire to work in heavy manufacturing setting.
• High regard for safety in the workplace and active willingness to be a safety leader.
