SUMMARY

The Foundation and Grants Manager must have 2-3 years of verifiable full-time experience in identifying, researching, and writing (as the lead author) grant proposals for private and family foundations.
Competitive candidates will have full-time experience as grant writers, with a proven track record as lead authors on successful grant proposals in healthcare, human health, patient advocacy, biotech, or social services within a nonprofit setting. Their experience should reflect a broad range of grant solicitations, including government, private, and for-profit funding opportunities.
Applicants will be asked to provide detailed information about funders (where appropriate), including the number, value, and outcomes of secured grants on an annual basis, including total awarded amounts. Grants from large private funders will be given additional weight in the assessment process.
The Foundation and Grants Manager will be responsible for:

  • Compiling and writing funding requests
  • Developing grant proposals
  • Identifying prospective funding opportunities
  • Overseeing all aspects of grant management, including tracking grant spending, program outcomes, final reporting, and preparing stewardship reports
The Foundation and Grants Manager collaborates with colleagues across the Foundation to identify and pursue suitable grant opportunities, collecting and synthesizing data from departments, subject matter experts, and senior leadership to complete complex and unique proposal requirements. This role is crucial in highlighting the Foundation’s work, impact, and singular role in the epilepsy patient advocacy space.
The Foundation and Grants Manager utilizes all available resources to analyze prospective opportunities, including past funder grant allocations, giving patterns, and funding trends, to determine eligibility and the best approach for positioning the Epilepsy Foundation with grantmaking institutions.
Additionally, the manager:
  • Advises colleagues on high-potential grant-seeking opportunities that align with the Foundation’s expertise and mission while ensuring a high likelihood of success.
  • Develops and maintains a grant calendar and project management procedures to track all grant activities and deadlines.
  • Establishes a quality review process to ensure grant proposals are complete and comply with all requirements.

The manager will advise colleagues on best practices and assist in creating fundraising strategies to achieve revenue goals. The preferred candidate must have a thorough understanding of the grant writing process and grant life-cycle management while contributing to a productive, high-functioning development team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • (25%) Research and identify suitable grant opportunities.
  • (45%) Lead the planning and execution of grant proposal writing for family and private foundations.
  • (15%) Manage post-award grant administration, ensuring compliance and timely reporting.
  • (15%) Maintain accurate records in Salesforce CRM and other tracking systems.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the primary grant writing subject matter expert, responding to internal inquiries.
  • Develop strong, strategic relationships with funders and decision-makers.
  • Leverage internal expertise to create successful grant proposals.
  • Maintain and improve grant tracking processes for increased efficiency.
  • Identify and recommend software tools for enhanced grant prospecting and management.
  • Ensure all grant proposals meet quality and compliance standards before submission.
  • Advise colleagues on best practices in grant writing and fundraising strategy to achieve revenue goals.
  • Assist with the management of vendor contracts and technology platforms related to fundraising.
  • Support new hire onboarding and training for grant-related systems.
  • Manage budget planning and financial reporting in collaboration with the finance team.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 2-3 years of full-time grant writing experience, preferably in human health or patient advocacy.
  • At least 2 years of experience in identifying and qualifying grant opportunities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort in learning new technical systems.
  • Experience with grant prospecting and tracking software.
  • Strong knowledge of grant funding as a revenue source and its role in nonprofit positioning.
  • Understanding of basic fundraising principles, best practices, and industry standards.

  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong ethical judgment and discretion, maintaining confidentiality in all grant-related matters.
  • Familiarity with fundraising, peer-to-peer campaigns, and major gifts is a plus.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT, TRAVEL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • This is a full-time, 35-hour per week position with some flexibility for night and weekend work based on event schedules.
  • While performing job duties, the employee may be required to:
    • Sit at a computer for extended periods.
    • Stand and move around at on-site events.
    • Lift up to 30 pounds (boxes, packages, event setup).
    • Arrange tables and chairs for event areas.
  • Telework options may be available per the Foundation’s policy. However, satisfactory performance and excellent customer service must be maintained.
  • Regular attendance at Foundation meetings and trainings is expected.
Salary Range
  • $75,000-$80,000
