Position at Hood Plywood
Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood and lumber manufacturing plants, and twenty-four specialty wood product distribution operations, located in eighteen states serving the northeast, southeast and southwest United States.
The primary role of the Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist is to promote occupational health and safety awareness; assist with the safety and environmental related functions, including assessments, training, coaching, and inspections for approximately 300 employees. Assist in leading investigations to determine the cause and subsequent action plans. Communicate the company commitment to safe operations. Ensures compliance with established company policies and OSHA, and other agencies’ regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and direct the safety, health, and environmental program at the mill, under the direction of the EHS Manager.
• Coordinate inspections and tours of the facility to detect existing or potential accidents, fire, and health hazards and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
• Maintain and provide input to update procedures in regard to OSHA regulations.
• Conduct safety orientation, employee training programs in incident, fire prevention and protection, and other safety related programs.
• Assist in coordinating and coaching the safety committee of the mill.
• Lead and assist with investigations of injuries, illnesses, near misses, and property damage and makes recommendations to prevent these incidents.
• Conduct follow-ups to ensure recommendations are implemented.
• Responsible for conducting contractor safety orientation.
• Responsible for maintaining safety and environmental documentation and records.
• Assist with managing work related injuries and illnesses.
• Other duties as directed.
Requirements/Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in safety or related field.
• Environmental experience dealing with air, storm water, spill prevention, etc. is a plus.
• Minimum of 2 to 5 years in a manufacturing environment.
• Solid communication skills.
• Must have knowledge of OSHA regulations.
• Must have a high level of proficiency in computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
