TalentSource360 is assisting a leading nonprofit mission-based organization in their search for a Director of Accounting and Finance. We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic accounting and finance leader to join this growing team and help ensure the continued financial health and sustainability of the organization.


Director of Accounting & Finance

Highlights:

Position Overview:

The Director of Accounting and Finance is a key leadership role within the finance department and will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This individual will manage the day-to-day accounting functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and internal controls. As a Director, he/she will work closely with senior leadership and staff across departments to provide insightful financial analysis and support the strategic goals of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

· Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

· Prepare and analyze financial reports for senior leadership, the Board of Directors, and donors/funders.

· Ensure all financial transactions are recorded in the general ledger and ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting.

· Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, adjustments, and journal entries.

· Provide detailed variance analysis and identify trends in financial performance.

· Lead the annual budgeting process and collaborate with department heads to develop departmental budgets aligned with organizational goals.

· Monitor financial performance against budget and recommend corrective actions when necessary.

· Prepare financial forecasts and provide insights into potential financial risks and opportunities.

· Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations as well as nonprofit accounting standards.

· Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard the organization’s financial assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.

· Manage the preparation and filing of tax returns and other required regulatory reports.

· Coordinate and manage audits by external auditors, ensuring smooth and timely completion of the audit process.

· Oversee cash flow management and ensure that adequate cash reserves are maintained to meet operational needs.

· Manage banking relationships, cash management, and investment strategies.

· Monitor and optimize cash flow, accounts payable, and receivable processes.

· Supervise, train, and mentor finance staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.

· Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures, ensuring best practices in all financial processes.

· Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for team members.

· Assist the CFO and senior leadership team in financial planning and decision-making.

· Provide financial analysis and recommendations for major organizational initiatives and projects.

· Participate in organizational strategy sessions and provide financial input on strategic planning and resource allocation.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)

· CPA or advanced degree (MBA, MAcc) preferred.

·5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role.

· Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting standards (FASB), IRS regulations, and compliance requirements.

· Experience with financial reporting software (e.g., MS Great Plains, NetSuite, Blackbaud, or similar accounting systems).

· Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.

· Strong leadership and team management skills.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

· Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications.

· Full-time, exempt position.

· Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for financial reporting deadlines or organizational events.

· Some travel may be required for meetings or events.
