Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some evenings and weekends.
Job Summary: The Costume Production Specialist supervises the execution of costumes. Facilitates the day-to-day activities of the University Theatre Costume Studio. Guides student staff in the production of quality costumes for theatrical and dance productions. Supervises fittings.
Additional Department Summary: Supervises Costume Studio staff (50+ student workers). Assists with the execution of costumes. Facilitates the daily activities of the University Theatre Costume Studio. Organizes and guides student staff in the performance of duties necessary to produce quality costumes for eleven theatre and dance productions during the academic year. Organizes and maintains costume storage and shop facilities. Oversees Costume Studio Budget.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher and some costume shop experience including draping, costume construction, dyeing, or theatre crafts/millinery; OR associate's degree and two (2) years of costume shop experience including draping, costume construction, dyeing, or theatre crafts/millinery; OR high school diploma or GED and four (4) years of costume shop experience including draping, costume construction, dyeing, or theatre crafts/millinery.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Working knowledge of costume draping, construction, and alterations. Working knowledge of textile dying and modification. Working knowledge of theatre crafts and millinery techniques. Time management and organizational skills. Ability to delegate. Strong communication skills. Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Theatre or Clothing Technology or MFA in costume construction. Experience in a professional costume shop, and/or experience with dance costumes. Supervisory and budget management experience.
